Senior Economist (Petroleum)

Responsibilities

  • Valuation, Economic Analysis and Modeling
  • Lead and be responsible for complex projects such as the valuations for M&A projects, commercial analysis involving various PSA parties, etc.
  • Supervise the team for building and maintaining economic models of Assets managed by the Company
  • Communicate regularly with operators and contractor parties to obtain updates related to the Assets
  • Develop and propose initiatives to improve business processes within the Company and with external parties
  • Lead the economic evaluation activities at various development stages of Assets
  • Supervise the team in the preparation and delivery of presentations and reports summarizing valuations, due diligence findings, and economic analyses
  • Economic and Decision Support
  • Lead the review and analysis of project documentation and decision-support materials issued by Operators and other parties
  • Represent the Company in formal meetings and committees related to managed Assets
  • Coordinate commercial matters with other parties and contribute to drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements
  • Leadership & Team Development
  • Provide technical guidance and structured feedback to junior team members, establishing clear standards for work quality and professional development
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture by driving knowledge-sharing initiatives and coordinating cross-functional team workflows
  • Define, standardize, and govern economic evaluation methodologies and modeling frameworks across all the Assets
  • Essential Experience and Job Requirements
  • University degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Minimum 5-7 years of upstream oil & gas economic modeling experience, with a proven track record of leading complex valuations, M&A due diligence, and commercial negotiation support
  • Advanced expertise in PSA fiscal regimes and the netback price, knowledge of international petroleum fiscal terms
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and reviewing the analytical work of mid-level or junior petroleum economists to ensure consistency and quality control across team deliverables
  • Demonstrated experience supervising and reviewing the work across different teams across the organization
  • Proven capability in identifying and implementing improvements to internal economic evaluation / analysis processes and optimizing workflow efficiency.
  • Strong capability in representing the company autonomously in formal external meetings.
  • Professional courses and trainings in oil & gas economics, certifications such as FMVA, CFA, ACCA, or equivalent will be considered an advantage
  • Proficiency in Azerbaijani and English (both written and spoken)
  • Advanced skills in MS Package
